EUGENE AND MARILYN GLICK EYE INSTITUTE
Department of Ophthalmology
Indiana University School of Medicine

The Department of Ophthalmology at the Indiana University School of Medicine is establishing a major eye institute that will bring together comprehensive patient care and innovative research laboratories to advance the vision sciences in the state of Indiana, the nation, and the world. Eugene and Marilyn Glick share this goal, and have generously earmarked $20 million for the construction of the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Eye Institute and $10 million for the establishment of a permanent, endowed fund to support the top-rated physicians and scientists who will be housed in the Institute. Ultimately, patients will be the beneficiaries of the extraordinary research and care provided in this magnificent facility.
The mission of the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Eye Institute will be four-fold:
1. To provide excellence in patient care to prevent blindness and loss of vision
2. To advance clinical and biomedical research in the vision sciences
3. To educate the next generation of physicians
4. To support community service and collaboration
The Glick Eye Institute will be comprised of approximately 77,000 square feet on three floors and will provide space for a full spectrum of comprehensive and subspecialty eye care by the faculty members of the Department of Ophthalmology. More than 35,000 square feet will be dedicated for basic biomedical and clinical research to advance the understanding of glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease, neurologic- associated eye disorders, eye disease in children, and other areas. Additional space will be made available for education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows, as well as continuing medical competency education for faculty and community clinicians.
Demand for eye care services is increasing rapidly as our population ages. We applaud the generosity and vision of the Glicks, while recognizing that an additional $40 million of endowed funds is needed to support the scientists and physicians who will provide these services in the future.
